I am writing to inquire about a Dental Hygiene position.  I have experience in soft tissue management, whitening, digital radiography, occlusal sealant placement, and the use of intraoral imaging.  I have also attended continuing education courses regarding Oral DNA and salivary diagnostics in treating the systemic and periodontal health of patients, LANAP procedures, caring for implant patients, boosting hygiene production, oral pathology and cancer screening, and practice management.  As I have acquired dental hygiene licenses in North Carolina, Virginia, and South Carolina, I am well-versed in state dental regulations.

In my last hygiene position, I had the privilege of initiating and implementing periodontal protocol, which was not currently in place.  Patients received a full-mouth probing at every appointment, which allowed for more site-specific management of episodic processes.  Patients were able to “co-diagnose” their condition, and thus become more aware of their condition and involved in their treatment.  I pride myself on being thorough and carefully assessing patients’ needs; however, my greatest reward was in giving patients the knowledge to better help themselves.  

My experience with community dental health as part of my dental hygiene curriculum has helped prepare me for instructional hygiene.  I have prepared lesson plans for teaching students of different ages as well as their parents.  My GTCC instructors praised me for my abilities to create supplemental educational materials used to explain dental hygiene theories and provide oral hygiene instruction.  As Dental Hygiene Student Representative for the Dental Department, I was able to participate in meetings that both discussed the “state-of-the-union” as well as goals for the department.  Additionally, my academic success has created a solid foundation by which I will be able to impart knowledge regarding dental ethics, curriculum, and clinical abilities.

My exceptional interpersonal skills would be a great asset to your practice as such traits are essential in delivering excellent patient care and individualized learning experiences.  I have solid clinical skills and depend on my precise critical thinking abilities to best determine individualized treatment plans for each patient.  Previous fine dining experience has refined my eye for detail and provided me with the ability to create an experience for each patient instead of a routine “cleaning” appointment.  My enthusiasm and optimism for my career, my patients, and those around me is contagious.
